I did. I just wrote my answer down quickly without any explanation:

The root of Kyoto is his cultural center with those temples, gardens and shinto monuments.
This cultural center is considered by many the " capital" of culture of Japan because of the many temples, gardens and monuments.

WIkipedia wrote:
Kyoto has been and still remains to this day, the cultural center of Japan. For over 1000 years it was Japan's capital. When the capital was changed to Tokyo, Kyoto remained Japan's cultural capital.

So the root of Kyoto is the cultural center, or in other words, the cultural capital of Japan. Kyoto (City) is the capital of Kyoto, but also is the cultural capital of Japan because of the rich history (Temples, gardens and monuments) this city has. Without it it will just be a normal city in Japan/

He didn't ask that. He asked what is the root of the capital of Kyoto. The capital of Kyoto is Kyoto (City). And the fact that Kyoto (City) is considered the cultural capital of Japan is what makes Kyoto an important city to Japan after Tokyo became the capital of Japan. So the root of Kyoto (City) is the fact that it is the cultural capital of Japan.
