Mostly this is for the people who need help getting IRC running and some important steps everyone should take. This is for all OS's. Although the writer uses mIRC the important things, like registering your nick to NickServ, are also for other OS's. Don't forget to register your nickname to NickServ! Otherwise you may loose it and someone else will register your nickname. Questions about this guide can also be posted here.

Recommend IRC Client:

Windows > mIRC
Linux > XChat
Mac > Ircle

Lets say... If you want to get your admin rights on some channels they demand you identify your self first to nickserv.

I think there is also some way to kick the user who hasn't logged in. (never had need to do that so not sure how it works.)
But it probably informs you how to act in these situations.

If you don't register and some dude comes along and registers the name Amtie you are forbidden to use it as long as he stays logged in. There are some other things but those are a bit more complicated. Let's just say you really need to register an account to NickServ in order to use most of the functions of ChanServ and not loose your name.

No you can just use the java app on our website. Although I wouldn't advice it since the only thing you can do is visit our chatroom and it doesn't allow any other functions at all.

/agree.

There is nothing wrong with us all continuing with msn.

For me, having an extra chat client open just in case there might be a clan member on there at some point is ridiculous.

Installing an extra program for chat would just clutter up my comp's harddrive further than it already is. I need a format sometime soon.
